WHAT IS HYDROGEN FUEL CELL?

A fuel cell is a device that convetrs the chemical energy of hydrogen into electricity. It can be used to power boats, cars, buses, submarines, and various other technologies.

Unlike traditional energy sources, a fuel cell does not produce any harful greenhouse gases.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Is Hydrogen safe?

In many cases, hydrogen is safer than other flammable fuels that we currently use to power our cars including petrol, diesel, natural gas, and LPG.

Hydrogen is less likely to explode because it is buoyant and diffusive. As a result of this, when hydrogen leaks it rises rapidly into the atmosphere, so it has less time to burn.

Heavier gases such as natural gas and gasoline vapour are more explosive because of their slow dispersion.

Despite this, hydrogen is not perfect. It is flammable and can behave dangerously if it is not handled responsibly. But when the user understands it’s behavior and has observed the guidelines, hydrogen can be handled safely.

Fuel cells vs. diesel?

If silence is essential, then hydrogen fuel cells provide the perfect solution since they don’t produce any noise. Conversely, diesel-run engines are usually very noisy.

Moreover, one of the most profound differences is the fuel cell’s ability to be built to various different sizes without compromising efficiency. It’s estimated to have an efficiency of almost 90%.

Fuel cells vs. batteries?

Although battery cells are very popular, they have significant limitations. Their range is limited: for example, a battery supplied electric car has a maximum of 300km (~190 miles), and recharging takes hours.

On the other hand, hydrogen fuel cells provide a continuous supply of electricity, and are much more convenient since they take just a few minutes to refill and you’re ready to go.

Can I use the solar panel to charge the inner batteries?

Yes. You have to use the regulators of the producer of solar panels.
